    This entry level research associate/bioengineer position will work on research projects within the Center for Translational Research in Mobility and Falls at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, Hebrew SeniorLife.


    • Under the supervision of the Project Director, carry out research activities on various studies related to the effects of noninvasive brain stimulation (transcranial direct current stimulation) on balance, mobility, cognition, and falls in older adults.

    • Learn and comply with HIPAA regulations regarding the use of Protected Health Information within clinical research studies.

    • Assist in the acquisition of experimental data, including administering noninvasive brain stimulation and data collection using movement sensors, functional neuroimaging technology, etc.

    • Responsible for the purchase and set-up, testing and interfacing of data acquisition equipment and collection and analysis of experimental data.

    • Responsible for data management (data exporting, data storage, data organization).

    • Oversee the management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment. Will be expected to train other lab personnel how to use lab equipment and be available to field problems and issues that may occur during research studies.

    • Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature.

    • Opportunities to prepare and present data and statistical analyses within study team meetings, as well as professional scientific meetings and peer-reviewed journals, as directed.

    • The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position.


    • B.S. degree in biomedical engineering or similar field.

    • Computer literacy required; experience with Windows, Word, Excel, and database management. Experience with analytical and statistical software is preferred, including Matlab and SAS.

    • Experience and comfort in working with older adults is strongly preferred.

    • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Must be extremely self-motivated and comfortable balancing independent and collaborative work.

    • Must demonstrate flexibility in regards to project demands; i.e., an adaptability to changes in schedules, coverage gaps, new technologies and unanticipated participant needs

    • Shows careful attention to details and compliance with participant confidentiality.
