Overview

Supports the mission of the department by ensuing that the right patients/resident receives the right medication in a safe and timely manner under the direct supervision of a clinical pharmacist. Develops a full understanding of the drug distribution system and demonstrates competency in carrying out all duties associated with delivering medications to the patient care units.

Responsibilities

Position Responsibilities:

 

  1. Delivers medication to the patient care units in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, and Massachusetts Board of pharmacy regulation.
  1. Accurately fills medications from the medication label generated.
  1. Delivers medications to the patient care units in an accurate and timely manner, including checking for errors such as expiration dates and wrong strengths.
  1. In conjunction with other technician colleagues and supervisors ensures that all drug distribution functions are completed in a safe and timely manner.  Informs pharmacist and/or other supervisors of any workflow issues.
  1. Repackages and compounds medications, as needed, in accordance with departmental procedures.
  1. Maintains appropriate inventory levels in area of practice, including rotating stock, checking for expired medications, informing pharmacy buyer when inventory levels are low, and checking in wholesaler order.
  1. Responsible for understanding and utilizing all technology to accomplish the above.
  1. Is responsible for answering telephone calls, triaging the request, and following through with appropriate action.
  1. Demonstrates competency in all practice areas in which technician duties are performed.  Has completed all required departmental competency requirements.
  1. Complies with all Hebrew Senior Life Policies.
  1. Complies with behavioral expectations of the department and Hebrew Senior Life
  1. Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients.
  1. Demonstrates an understanding of the job description, performance expectations, and competency assessment.
  1. Demonstrates a commitment toward meeting and exceeding the needs of our customers and consistently adheres to Customer Service standards.
  1. Participates in departmental and/or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
  1. Participates in and successfully completes Mandatory Education.
  1. Performs all other duties as needed or directed to meet the needs of the department.

Required Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Technician trainee must prepare to take MA Board of Pharmacy competency exam after completing at least 500 hours of training, but not more than 1,000 hours of training.  Must pass with a score of 75% and fulfilling all requirements to become a registered technician set forth by the MA Board of Pharmacy.

Required Training

  • Successful completion of departmental orientation & training.
