  • Overview

    Responsible for diagnosis and therapeutic services for patients who demonstrate disorders of communication, cognition, and swallowing. Serve as a member of the interdisciplinary team to manage patient care. Act as a clinical resource for staff, patients, families and greater community in the areas of communication, cognition, and swallowing. This can include both internal and external presentations. Provides clinical instruction/supervision of SLP graduate externs. Participates actively in regular quality and process improvement projects in collaboration with SLP department manager and clinical supervisor. Responsible for independently managing caseload assignments in order to effectively meet the needs of the patient while working within a set productivity expectation. Actively participates in both internal and external continuing education activities and shares knowledge with appropriate team.

    Responsibilities

    • Evaluate and review pertinent data relating to overall treatment planning and evaluation.
    • Administer standard evaluations and elicit information regarding existing skills and capacities.
    • Administer diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of the patient’s impairment and the prognosis for improvement.
    • Organize and present educational information to caregiver/families on an individual basis.
    • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of departmental reports.
    • Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment
    • Responds to assist with responding to call bells and patient requests
    • Independently able to set personal caseload and schedule to meet the needs of the individual patients while considering the needs of the department and the team all within set productivity expectations.
    • Serve as an education resource for patients, families, interdisciplinary team members and greater community for all communication, cognitive-linguistic and swallowing disorders.

    Qualifications

    • M.S.  Speech Language Pathology
    • ASHA-Certificate of Clinical Competence
    • Licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist in MA
    • Rehab and Long Term Care experience required
    • VitalStim and LSVT certification a plus
    • Experience with Dysphagia, Dementia, and Cognitive-Linguistic remediation
