    This research assistant position is placed at the Aging Brain Center (ABC), at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, led by D. Sharon K Inouye, one of the premiere research centers on delirium, dementia, and their inter-relationship. The duties will be wide-ranging and cutting across multiple projects and initiatives of ABC. This position will support numerous projects. Activities include support with grant preparation, manuscript development, training initiatives, maintenance of bibliographies, updates of websites, and social media communication. The position may also support active studies including data collection with study participants via phone calls, in the hospital, and visits to study participants’ homes. The Research Assistant must be experienced in scientific writing and literature searches, and willing to gain experience/training in website and social media management, academic grant preparation, data collection, and all aspects of clinical epidemiological research. Intensive training will be provided. Bachelor’s degree required. Previous experience an academic setting, Master’s degree, or equivalent combination of training preferred.     Responsibilities

    • Provide project-based support as needed for the ABC leadership
    • Support the preparation of presentations, assistance with preparation of grants, manuscripts, study protocols, and training materials
    • Assist with developing agendas and write minutes of research meetings
    • Assist performing academic literature searches utilizing diverse literatures databases
    • Screen literature and identify articles for various bibliographies
    • Assist with creating summaries and data tables as requested by the ABC leadership
    • Assist with identifying funding sources and maintain a timeline for application deadlines
    • Assist with updating and maintaining the center’s bibliographies
    • Assist with project based communication including social media presence ( twitter, blogs, and others), newsletters and brochures
    • Update and maintain the center’s websites
    • Occasional weekend and evening work hours required (time will be compensated)
    • The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position

    Qualifications

    • College degree required (4 years), prior related research experience preferred.
    • Must have a driver’s license and own a car (standard mileage reimbursement provided).
    • Ability to drive to patient’s home in the greater Boston area.
    • Prior research experience in healthcare or other related research strongly preferred
    • Must have excellent writing skills
    • Must have experience in academic literature searches
    • Must have excellent oral and communication skills, attention to detail, organizational skills, and be an independent performer with the ability to follow directions.
    • Must be highly motivated to learn
    • Excellent knowledge of social media and research terminology preferred
    • Must be able to maintain and sustain confidentiality at all times
    • Must be highly adaptable to competing deadlines and changes in priorities
    • Must be a professional, respectful, resourceful, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual
    • Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor
    • Must be creative and proactive yet disciplined, discriminating, and able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing
    • Must have ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations
    • Must demonstrate flexibility with regards to project demands, technologies, schedule changes, coverage of gaps, and unanticipated project needs
    • Computer literacy required; experience with Windows, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint required.
    • Experience with Endnote preferred
