    The Catering Steward position entails performing multiple tasks and providing excellent guest service through all Catering Requests.  Must be quick thinking, and fast on your feet at times to perform several tasks at once.  This position will also require other duties, not related to just Catering.  The Catering Steward is not responsible for cooking the food, but is expected to present it in a professional, attractive way.  Setting up the carts, and service to the rooms where the events are taking place.  Finally, breaking down of the event room, cleaning, and returning all equipment used during the day back to the Catering Room.  Solid communication with the Catering Manager is expected on a daily basis to keep up on every event.

     

    Responsibilities

    Promote effective interpersonal and interdisciplinary relationships, maintaining professional conduct at all times.  Demonstrate a positive, supportive attitude towards all.  Display patience and tact when dealing with all Center personnel.  Present department in a positive manner when dealing with visitors, patients and staff.  Maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude toward visitors, patients and staff.  Contribute to the efficient and productive operation of the department.  Complete assignments with minimal assistance.  Exercise initiative, seeking additional tasks and projects from supervisor. Recognize problems independently and work toward improving systems and procedures.  Demonstrate a strong commitment to the cultural beliefs, goals and mission of Hebrew Senior Life.  Strive to make every encounter with a patient a positive and meaningful experience, while providing a safe and efficient quality care.

     

    • Transports all materials necessary for the event from the Catering room to the event.
    • Prepares the cart / carts for the days events on the day prior to them with all needed items (plates, napkins, utensils, serving trays or bowls, serving pieces, etc.)
    • Sets up drops off to the standards set by the catering Manager and procedure.
    • Prepares food and beverage platters in a decorative, and attractive way according to the Catering Manager’s direction.
    • Addresses al customer and patient’s concerns, questions and needs in order to provide the best experience possible for them.
    • Breaks down all carts with clean and sanitized equipment, and is to put away everything in an orderly manner.
    • Restock Catering Room with necessary paper products, utensils, disposable paper products, etc.
    • Reports any missing or damaged equipment or product to the Manager to be reordered or found on the floors.
    • Must be familiar with health and cleanliness standards for food preparation and presentation.
    • Assist in the Usen Cafe’ when time allows. General cleaning, stocking, preparation, or service to the guests.
    • Restock Catering Room with necessary paper products, utensils, disposable paper products, etc.
    • Reports any missing or damaged equipment or product to the Manager to be reordered or found on the floors.
    • Must be familiar with health and cleanliness standards for food preparation and presentation.
    • Assist in the Usen Cafe’ when time allows. General cleaning, stocking, preparation, or service to the guests.
    • MUST be a team player. Work well with others and communicate with one another to assure a smooth event happens every time.
    • Familiarity with food, recipes, menus, and general appearance of food and beverage related items.
    • Has to be willing to take on multiple roles, assisting where needed on a daily basis. Not just with the catering, but throughout the Hospital to get the job done.
    • Excellent time management is need to ensure ALL events are done in a professional timely manner. The ability to work under some high pressure moments is key as well.
    • Needs to be ahead of the moment. Always preparing well in advance for what lies ahead.  No last minute decisions, unless a request has been made at the last minute.
    • Have a keen eye for detail in every aspect of each and every event we do.
    • Assist in large Catered Events for staff and patients (BBQ’s, Holiday Parties, Jewish Holidays, Socials)
    • Follow catering protocol as set by the Catering Manager as the needed steps from start to finish so there are no steps that have not been followed to assure a seamless event every time.
    • Communicate with Culinary Leads when needing food items to be prepared by our Chef’s or Lead Cooks.
    • Needs to be flexible with your hours to work as each week has different requirements and needs.
    • Needs to be able to multitask and follow direction in every event. Stay ahead of each event, nothing should be getting done in the last moments of the timing to the event.
    • Ability to take initiative and express new ideas or concepts.
    • Needs to accept and promote expressions of positive and negative feedback.
    • Responsible for communicating and responding to issues and or problems within the Catering venue in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Is aware and respects others’ cultures, values, and backgrounds and considers differences when talking with them.
    • Must follow all policies and procedures handed to you set forth by HRC’s policy manual and handbook.
    • Must report to work every shift with a clean and respectful appearance. Facility approved shoes, and uniform are to be worn daily when reporting for your work.
    • Adheres to all infection control policies.

    • Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and have a positive demeanor.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to adapt to changing priorities
    • Display good, sound judgment.
    • Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change.
    • Must be able to lift, pull, and push 50 (fifty) pounds.
