  • Overview


    To work flexibly throughout the Main Kitchen, EL and SNF and maintain the sanitary condition of the kitchens, equipment, smallwares, china, glass and flatware. Insure that all service areas are well stocked with china, glassware, and silverware. To assist with any kitchen responsibilities to help insure the overall productivity and organization of food service at Orchard Cove. Follow HSL Cultural Beliefs.


    • To do their job as listed on the attached “Healthcare Steward Daily Task Schedule”.
    • Clean dishes, pots and pans, glassware and silverware by hand or machine according to health code.
    • Receives tableware from Dining and Health Care, or stacks tableware on a carrier for transporting to dish washing room.
    • Transports cleaned and dried tableware to proper places in dining room and kitchen areas.
    • Cleans working areas, steam tables, refrigerators and kitchen equipment.
    • May push food carts into various dining areas and assist in setting food on steam tables.
    • Removes refuse from kitchen areas, sweeps and mops floors thoroughly at end of shift, follows daily sanitation cleaning schedule.
    • Secures kitchen before leaving by turning off all lights and locking all doors.
    • Discards broken and chipped glassware after showing items to be discarded to the Steward supervisor immediately upon noticing any damage to the tableware.
    • Provides sufficient quantities of cleaned tableware in time to meet meal schedules, and insure that dining room/floors and kitchen surroundings are clean.
    • Cooperates and coordinates work activities with co-workers to ensure a smooth run department.
    • Performs any extra job duties or special projects as assigned by the Steward Supervisor or Chef.


    • Ability to communicate verbally
    • Able to perform simple, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis
    • Ability to pass a CORI background check and physical examination including TB test
    • Follow uniform and personal hygiene policies

      Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

    • Standing for long periods of time, walking short distances
    • Lifting objects up to 50 lbs, repetitive stooping, twisting and reaching.
    • Works in a clean, well lighted and ventilated environment
    • Possible work hazards include: cuts, burns, slips and falls
    • Variable exposure to hot and cold.
