    Job Summary

    Hebrew SeniorLife (HSL), a 110 year-old non-denominational non-profit organization, is committed to transforming the experience of aging.     The position is full-time with evening, weekend and holiday rotation.  It usually averages 2 evenings a week (until 10pm) and 2 out of every 6 weekends. The positon works mainly in Roslindale but will rotate to Dedham as needed.

     

     

    Perform diversified duties to assist with day-to-day pharmacy activities under direction of staff pharmacist.

    Responsible for packaging and maintaining records of medication for stock.

     

    Responsibilities

     

     

     

     

     

     

    • Fill and charge nursing unit par-levels using floor stock sheets.
    • Responsible for informing the nursing unit of par-level items that will not be sent for the day.
    • Order and restock pharmacy shelf with pharmaceuticals purchased from the wholesaler.
    • Report any discrepancies as noted on the wholesaler invoice to the Director of Pharmacy.
    • Responsible for re-ordering pharmaceuticals backordered from the wholesaler.
    • Restock medication for pharmacy Night Closet based on report of items used by the nursing unit coordinator.
    • Check for outdated medications on the pharmacy shelf and Night Closet monthly.
    • Re-order expired pharmaceuticals on pharmacy shelf when noted.
    • Collect and fill pharmacy basket daily as needed by the nursing unit.
    • Assist the pharmacist by filling prescription orders when required for patients who are taking a leave of absence.
    • Report to the staff pharmacist medication that is not available to dispense.
    • Notify the nursing units of medications that are not available for dispensing for the day. Make all necessary attempts to determine if enough stock is available on the unit.
    • Prepare sterile or compound pharmaceuticals needed for basket refill.
    • Document medications borrowed or lent to other hospitals.
    • Transport sharp objects to Materiel Department and dirty towels to laundry personnel as needed.
    • Restock medication cards that are checked by the pharmacist.
    • Respond to telephone calls and assist the pharmacist in resolving issues that do not require clinical judgment.
    • File the narcotic sheet daily and transport to Materiel Department at the end of the month.
    • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
    • When part of the closing team, ensure that all electrical systems, e.g., heat sealer, are shut down.

    Qualifications

     Thorough knowledge of the professional field of Pharmacy involving specialized training equivalent to two years of college or degree in other science profession.

    • Either current registration with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, or at least one year of Pharmacy School.
    • Proficiency in the use of related computer software and systems.
    • Three to six months of experience.
