    Under the supervision of the Operations Coordinator, the Activity Assistant is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Activity Programs for the Skilled Nursing.. The programs shall be scheduled on a daily basis and shall make every effort to meet the comprehensive needs and interests of all of the residents

    Responsibilities

    • Engagement/Activity programs are developed within the framework of the facility's organizational structure in accordance with State and Federal regulations and the approval of the Resident's attending physician. The programs are coordinated in a team effort with other departments as necessary
    • The Activity Assistant will provide for an ongoing program of activities designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being of each member
    • Assist in developing and implementing therapeutic programs to meet the physical, cognitive and psychosocial needs of the membership on SNF
    • Assist in development of monthly activity calendars for SNF and distribution to residents and family members
    • Assist in planning goal-oriented treatment plans to maximize functioning, maintain and improve health, and provide for the general well-being of each member
    • Hold activity programs to allow residents to participate within their capabilities. Adapt programs for success as necessary
    • Document resident progress through timely completion of assessment, MDS, quarterly notes, attendance sheets, one-to-one logs, and other paperwork as required
    • Document individual activity assessment and activity plan using appropriate assessment forms to be found in the EMR and completing the activity plan in a timely and accurate manner
    • Inform resident, support staff and interdisciplinary team of the current schedule of planned activities by displaying available activities daily and posting activities on designated display boards
    • Work collaboratively within the individual department team and community at large to establish positive relationships to provide intergenerational programs and other community-based programs
    • Work collaboratively with other departments in taking responsibility for transport of residents
    • Develop and display thematic decorations in regards to dates/seasons/holidays
    • Increase knowledge base through participating successfully in classes, conferences, and workshops both within Orchard Cove/HSL and outside in the community
    • Interpret to OC residents and other staff members the purpose and benefits of the activity program through daily communication, group meetings, presentations, etc.
    • Assist in training and overseeing the performance of any volunteers or interns
    • Supervise and protect members within activity programs
    • Consistently follows departmental and OC Health, Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials policies and procedures
    • Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of unit activities, needs, and problems related to patient care
    • Perform other related duties as requested such as assisting in the dining room at meal times.

    Qualifications

    • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
    • Experience working in recreation therapy or similar field
    • Able to push a wheelchair and manage other physical demands of the job
    • In addition, employee must successfully pass the CORI check as requested by Orchard Cove
    • Basic computer skills
