The Staff Accountant is a key position within the supportive housing fiscal and real-estate offices. The Staff Accountant maintains and controls the General Ledger accounts and business transactions of the organization, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the fiscal team with the day-to day, monthly and year-end operations of the Accounting/ Finance Department including budget review and analysis.
  • Manages grants across the supportive housing portfolio
  • Assists with the development of Real Estate proforma
  • Manage the processing of cash receipts, recording of revenue and receivable and maintaining a daily cash receipts log.
  • Review and process Credit Card reports and receipts submitted by cardholders on monthly basis.
  • Perform the processing of functional and benefits expense allocations, monthly accruals, amortization of prepaid expenses, fixed assets depreciation and recording of adjusting and reclassification journal entries, if necessary.
  • Prepare and analyze the monthly budget/forecast to actual variance reports per program and department.
  • Perform general accounts analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, fixed assets, employer’s benefit costs, accruals and prepaid expenses.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and various ad hoc reports.
  • Assist other departments with questions and accounting issues and communicate effectively with non-accounting personnel.
  • Organize and maintain fiscal record archives.
  • Assist in preparing reports and account analyses in connection with the year-end audit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from a fully accredited four year university or college, or Associates degree in Accounting with related experience.
  • Experience with real-estate accounting and grants management.
  • Demonstrated theoretical and practical knowledge of accounting concepts, practices and procedures; demonstrated competence in pertinent computer applications and systems.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using a personal computer, including knowledge and skill in the use of the Windows operating system and pertinent software applications such as:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Microsoft Word
    • General Ledger and other accounting software for a medium sized corporation.
    • Workday
    • Yardi
