Overview

The Hospitalist is responsible for provision of direct, primary in-patient care to patients in the Medical Acute Care Unit (MACU) of Hebrew Rehabilitation Center (HRC).  The MACU, licensed as an LTAC, is designed to accommodate the clinical needs of post surgical and post ICU medically complex patients, especially those with respiratory care or mechanical ventilation needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct inpatient care for patients assigned to the MACU
  • Complete assigned admissions, discharges, and daily rounds for patients in the MACU
  • Collaborate with/provide oversight for MACU advance practice clinicians
  • Perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses and treatment to MACU patients
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions
  • Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate
  • Coordinates with members of multidisciplinary team to help meet each patient’s individual needs
  • Available in person or by phone/pager from 8am-6pm daily Monday through Friday
  • Participate in overnight, weekend and holiday call as appropriate for MACU providers
  • Document patient visits within a timely manner (typically within same day) using the appropriate medical record system
  • Follow established department policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
  • Meet productivity benchmarks as established by Department of Medicine Administration
  • Trains and supervises medical students, residents and fellows engaged in on-site activities and procedures, as assigned
  • Participate in Medical staff quality improvement and review activities
  • Participates in Medical Staff Meetings and MACU specific team meetings
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: Awarded degree of MD or DO with ACGME accredited internal medicine or family practice residency (3 years minimum).  Successful completion of ACGME accredited geriatric medicine fellowship program preferred

License: Valid and unrestricted Massachusetts Medical License.  Must maintain CME to meet institutional and state licensing requirements

Certification: American Board of Internal Medicine Certification in Internal Medicine currently valid or renewed prior to expiration or equivalent. 

ABIM added certification in gerontology currently valid or renewed prior to expiration.  Federal DEA Certification.  

CPR, BLS, ACLS as indicated by specific practice location

Pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

 

Experience:

  • Experience delivering effective medical care within an inpatient environment
  • Experience with ICU level care or mechanical ventilator management preferred
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
  • Experience in community medical diagnostic and patient care services, including knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment
  • Experience working both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to supervise, advise and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise
