Overview

Collaborate with members of the Department of Professional Development to plan, conduct and evaluate educational programming including, but, not limited to, licensed and non-licensed orientation, nurse aide training, in servicing and continuing education.  Provide unit-based clinical support and mentoring to facilitate direct caregiver knowledge and skill competence. Provide education to various HSL departments as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with staff, visitors, residents/patients, and families in a manner that conveys respect, caring and sensitivity.
  • Acquire and maintain current knowledge and skills in gerontological nursing practice.
  • Utilize various methods to assess learning needs and learning styles of all levels of nursing staff.
  • Develop methodologies and/or tools using a variety of instructional methods to support the teaching-learning process.
  • Teach and/or train all levels of staff to fulfill their role responsibilities at a proficiency level consistent with expectations.
  • Evaluate educational outcomes on an ongoing basis through various methods and recommend program changes as warranted.
  • Consult with new employee’s preceptor and/or managers to assess orientation progression.
  • Mentor new employees in their role development during the post-orientation period.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Operations Leaders regarding the orientee’s progress, or lack of progress.
  • Attend and actively participate in the Department of Professional Development meetings.
  • Serve as a representative of the Department of Nursing and/or Department of Professional Development at designated committee or assigned project meetings.
  • Communicate with Administrative Assistant effectively to facilitate efficient and organize program planning.
  • Set priorities based on departmental needs through collaborative discussion with Director of Professional Practice & Education and other leadership.

  • Perform other related duties as required or directed.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Nursing required; Master’s degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current RN license in Massachusetts.
  • Two to three years of recent acute care or ICU clinical experience preferred, including a minimum of one year of practice in the care of geriatric patients (geriatric setting.)
  • Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Life Support certification preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of teaching and learning theory.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of pertinent computer software.
  • On line learning management system experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Develops well written and accurate communications including teaching materials, policies, outlines, handouts etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with licensed and non-licensed nursing staff.
  • Flexibility to rotate to the off-shift to meet the needs of the Department of Nursing and other departments
  • Successful completion of HSL orientation.
  • Annual completion of mandatory education regarding hazards communication, infection control, fire safety, and elder abuse education programs and other required education.
