Overview

Placed at the Harvard Medical School affiliate Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife, the Project Director will be responsible to manage an eight-site hospital intervention trial across the US to improve care of older patients and their caregivers. The multi-center, clinical trial (https://enhancetrial.org/) now its second year, utilizes the multicomponent, non-pharmacologic program: the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP, https://help.agscocare.org), specifically includes caregivers and will be evaluated using state-of-the-art implementation science.  HELP is an effective and evidence-based clinical program to prevent delirium and falls, shorten hospital stays, and decrease admissions to nursing home. While the ENHANCE Trial will be the major responsibility, other and future project director responsibilities will be part of this position.

 

The Project Director will be responsible to manage all aspects of the project including developing and updating of protocols, implementation, training, trouble–shooting and evaluation. The Project Director will support all of the HELP sites to maximize enrollment and optimize adherence to interventions on a day by day basis. The Project Director will assist in creating implementation and research protocols, maintaining operations manuals and website, coordinating evaluation efforts, leading presentations and webinars, and participating in manuscripts.

 

We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic about supporting research, with experience in program management and training, and with deep understanding of clinical issues relevant to the care of hospitalized older adults. This position is excellent for an individual interested in working in a vibrant research program on the development, submission, implementation and evaluation of projects dedicated to improve the care of older adults.

Responsibilities


• Provide first line support to the hospital clinical teams involved in the trial.
• Work with the PIs to develop and refine research designs and methodologies, project goals,
resource requirements and data collection plans.
• Work closely with the team in the hospitals to ensure high quality data collection, adherence to
minimal standards and trouble shoot any issues that may arise.
• Develop and foster strong, collaborative relationships with the hospitals and key stakeholders
• Create agendas and coordinate meetings among stakeholders for projects, maintain timeline
for all deliverables and project goals.
Provide daily supervision of ABC staff on project-related aims and activities.
• Assist Director with budget development, tracking of deadlines and reporting requirements
• Perform in-person or web-based training efforts related to implementation of protocols and training of site staff.
• Provide daily operational oversight of all implementation and training initiatives. Serve as point-person for moving project ahead and coordinating communication among team members.
• Develop complex training and research protocols, maintain training manuals and website, working with interdisciplinary collaborators     across the country.
• Ensure adequate resources for clinical operations including overseeing operational plans, tactical execution of trials, protocol preparation, report writing, regulatory submissions, etc.
• National travel for training, stakeholder meetings and training required
• Occasional weekend and evening work hours required

 

The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position. Other responsibilities will be on request of the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate has a master’s, doctorate, or advanced clinical degree (nursing or social work) and a minimum of 3-5 years of project coordination or advanced research administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical care is required (hospital care preferred) for this position.
  • Previous experience working in the aging field or working with older patients preferred.
  • Supervisory, management, training and mentoring experience required.

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills, self-motivated with ability to work independently. Demonstrate discretion and independent judgment and provide comprehensive support for a complex and expanding program.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work with a team; outstanding communication skills required, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with health care professionals and staff  in health care, including understanding clinical care needs and terminology
  • Strong computer skills; experience with Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and REDCap,
  • Knowledge of website maintenance preferred.
  • Flexibility and able to adapt to change and new technologies.
  • Ability to work well under time pressure and to adhere to deadlines.
  • Available for occasional travel locally and nationally
