Overview

The Marcus Institute for Aging Research has an opening for a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the field of musculoskeletal epidemiology.  The fellow will perform independent research to study the contribution of vascular dysfunction with aging to skeletal fragility.  The position requires a PhD in epidemiology or related field such as biostatistics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation science, physical therapy, and gerontology. 

Responsibilities

The fellow would be responsible for assisting with study design, statistical analyses, presenting results, and preparing manuscripts for publication, as well as participating in post-doctoral training activities at the Marcus Institute and more broadly Harvard-wide.  The fellow is expected to submit a grant application for an independent research project by the end of the training period. 

 

The purpose of the project is to determine the contribution of vascular function declines with aging to skeletal fragility.  The fellow will join an interdisciplinary team of investigators and work under the supervision of Harvard Medical School faculty at the Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife. The post-doctoral fellow will have the opportunity to work on large, cohort studies, such as the Framingham Study, and participate in all components of conducting epidemiological research. In addition, the fellow will have the opportunity to participate in career development activities, including project management, grant writing, communicating research findings, and building successful collaborations.

 

The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position. These might include completing special projects as assigned.

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent) in epidemiology preferred.  Advanced degree in related fields such as biostatistics, musculoskeletal rehabilitation science, geriatrics or gerontology will be considered.
  • Must be able to work independently. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong background in musculoskeletal diseases and clinical aging research preferred.
  • Strong analytical and programming skills, including experience with statistical packages, databases, operating systems, graphing packages. 
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, highly motivated to learn and contribute to the investigative team. 
  • Candidate cannot have more than three years of postdoctoral fellowship experience.
