The Institute for Aging Research (IFAR) at Hebrew SeniorLife, a Harvard Medical School (HMS) teaching affiliate, is seeking an experienced PhD or MD clinical investigator to direct its new program of interventional research focused on translating clinical research findings into larger-scale initiatives to improve the quality of life and care of seniors. The focus of this new program is on clinical trials. We are seeking a talented investigator with skills in developing and testing novel clinical, behavioral, and/or health care service interventions to prevent disease and disability, and ultimately incorporating them into health care policies and practices that will benefit people as they age.
The ideal candidate should have an advanced degree in medicine, nursing, psychology, sociology, or related fields, and experience in conducting clinical trials. They should have a track record of NIH, AHRQ, VA, and/or other government and foundation funding and qualify for a Harvard Medical School appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor. We are interested in someone who will build interprofessional collaborations with other clinical investigators at IFAR who are studying dementia, delirium, falls, balance and mobility, musculoskeletal disorders, palliative care, and blood pressure dysregulation. They will be expected to spend part of their time on their own funded research portfolio, and the remainder on building the clinical trials capacity of our Institute. There are also numerous opportunities for research collaborations across Harvard teaching hospitals and Boston universities, including the Brandeis Heller School and our new HSL/Heller Joint Center to Inform Policy and Practice in Aging.
The new Director will hold faculty positions at IFAR, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Division of Gerontology, and HMS. He or she will be expected to help supervise research fellows and participate in various seminars and teaching activities. They will have access to IFAR Core resources including its administrative, biostatistics, and informatics cores and will be encouraged to extend their research to the 3,000 seniors living in Hebrew SeniorLife’s housing facilities.
